Mayor of Wolverhampton,
Councillor Bert Turner, is hosting and inviting people to join in a fund raising
Christmas party night out at Monmore greyhound track, Wolverhampton, on December 1st.
Whilst his 3 chosen charities are certainly good causes: Charities/Trusts in the caring of people facing life-limiting illnesses and Alzheimers, it is certainly of great sadness that the supporting and encouragement of an industry sustained on the abuse of greyhounds has been chosen in the Mayors endeavours to fund raise.
After another successive cut in the spending plan's
2011 budget for the Greyhound Board of Great Britain(23% down on its previous years budget, also declined from nearly 50% in the budget 2 years previous), which included a slash of 23% in funding to the retired greyhound trust, and 48% slash in marketing.
With slashing of minimal funds to the retirement of greyhounds this must lead more to the use of the Rules of Racing
Rule 18 f, where the GBGB sanctions the killing of healthy greyhounds if(as one option)a home cannot be found through the rgt
The GBGB has left the rgt to ask the caring public for yet more fundraising and also offers ways of marketing itself through using the un-learned(of the industry's inherent abuses to greyhounds)public.
So the greyhounds continue to suffer whilst raising money for other needs.
Please write to the Mayor of Wolverhampton and politely ask him to withdraw his Christmas Party Night At The Dogs/fundraising through the abuse of greyhounds and his promotion of the inherently abusive greyhound industry.
Please ask him to find an alternative Party Night Out and way to raise funds for his chosen charities/trust, that does not involve cruelty.
