Petition to Waltham Forest Council

Please sign and share this petition, addressed to the Councillors of Walthamstow, by Say NO to the 'Stow' on Facebook.
Please also see earlier campaign information by GS and campaign information by Greyt Exploitations, on keeping the old Walthamstow greyhound track closed.

Petition letter addressed to Waltham Forest Council:

'We the undersigned ask the Councillors of Walthamstow NOT to to see the return of greyhound racing at Walthamstow as an option for the derelict 'Stow' site.
we call on the council to be aware of the inherent abuse greyhounds suffer in order to sustain greyhound racing.
Greyhound racing is responsible for the abuse and deaths of tens of thousands of greyhounds each year in the UK. Only a MINORITY make it to a fulfilling life of retirement, being homed through the hard work of rescues, surviving on funds raised by the public.
The greyhounds making 'the grade' and going on to endure a racing 'career' face high risk of injuries on the race track resulting in young greyhounds being killed, whether the injury being major or minor. A minor injury is cheaper to deal with through euthanasia(killing).
This is all seen as just the way of the 'game'.
A re-opening of the 'Stow' will ONLY result in the furthering of the abuse and cruelty greyhounds endure daily.
Please see this video of track 'bumps'(collisions resulting in death)filmed at the 'Stow' before it closed.
Please note the video commentary by Graham Oliver BVSc CertSAO MRCVS Orthopaedic Veterinary Surgeon.

Please the UK and the rest of the world that Waltham Forest Council will not be seen as supports of inherently abusive greyhound racing.
We call on you to NOT see a return of greyhound racing as an option called for by the pro-racing community.

Night At The Dogs with Mayor of Wolverhampton

Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Bert Turner, is hosting and inviting people to join in a fund raising Christmas party night out at Monmore greyhound track, Wolverhampton, on December 1st.

Whilst his 3 chosen charities are certainly good causes: Charities/Trusts in the caring of people facing life-limiting  illnesses and Alzheimers, it is certainly of great sadness that the supporting and encouragement of an industry sustained on the abuse of greyhounds has been chosen in the Mayors endeavours to fund raise.

After another successive cut in the spending plan's 2011 budget for the Greyhound Board of Great Britain(23% down on its previous years budget, also declined from nearly 50% in the budget 2 years previous), which included a slash of 23% in funding to the retired greyhound trust, and 48% slash in marketing.
With slashing of minimal funds to the retirement of greyhounds this must lead more to the use of the Rules of Racing Rule 18 f, where the GBGB sanctions the killing of healthy greyhounds if(as one option)a home cannot be found through the rgt
The GBGB has left the rgt to ask the caring public for yet more fundraising and also offers ways of marketing itself through using the un-learned(of the industry's inherent abuses to greyhounds)public.

So the greyhounds continue to suffer whilst raising money for other needs.

Please write to the Mayor of Wolverhampton and politely ask him to withdraw his Christmas Party Night At The Dogs/fundraising through the abuse of greyhounds and his promotion of the inherently abusive greyhound industry.
Please ask him to find an alternative Party Night Out and way to raise funds for his chosen charities/trust, that does not involve cruelty.

Email Councillor Bert Turner:

mayoral@wolverhampton.gov.uk

Please also add your name to this petition, calling for an end to greyhound racing in Wolverhampton.

Call For Coursing Ban In Ireland

Coursing is when 2 greyhounds (or other sighthounds) are 'released' to 'compete' against each other in pursuit of a live hare.
Although the greyhounds are muzzled, while coursing,  there is still horrific cruelties and abuse endured by all animals concerned, with the Irish Coursing Club being the controlling body of registration and identification of thoroughbred  greyhounds in Ireland.
It is simply another industry, aligned with the racing industry, where abuse of the animals concerned sustains its existence.

An introduction of a permanent ban on coursing came into effect in Northern Ireland in August of this year.

With the start of a new coursing season now under way in Ireland, please email:

Irish Minister Jimmy Deenihan
ministersoffice@tcs.gov.ie
and Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny
taoiseach@taoiseach.gov.ie

Politely calling for a ban of the barbaric abuses to the hares being 'tested' against exploited greyhounds, for entertainment in Ireland, known as coursing.

Further information and campaign up-dates can be followed with Ban Blood Sports.
